Anyone got any ideas?
Anyway this is a wonderful forum and a wonderful web site... I absolutely love it. |
"The schizophrenic is drowning in the waters the mystic swims in with delight."
In many cultures throughout history and even into contemporary times, those who we view as "psychotic" others view as "touched by spirit" or even "holy." The difference between the two are simply the level to which one's ability to function in THIS reality is impaired by their activities in an alternate reality.
If you cease to be able to function in THIS reality, then you are, by definition, "ill". If, however, you can walk that line between this reality and alternate reality, then you have accomplished what every Shaman, Medicine Man, Mystic, Seer, and Medium have accomplished.
To the Native American, walking this "line" is called The Red Road and it's considered a Path of Strength and Wisdom.
The only experiences that are "negative" are those that we label as such. If we have survived something, then we have - or should have - learned from it. However horrible or destructive it may have seemed at the time, it - and all of your life's experiences - have made you who you are. The really cool thing about that is that you now have the option of accepting who you have become, or changing it. Same goes with your experience.
You can either accept that it was horrible and continue to allow it to shape who you are by that viewpoint, or you can accept that it happened and instead focus on what that experience has taught you. We call that "medicine."
It's your choice which way you go. Me, personally, I think it's a stronger stance to go the latter route, but like I said, that's just me.
