I like to do brief computer-fasts occasionally, during which I spend time reading, listening to the radio, and just being generally quiter and stiller. But since I'm not the kind of person who can handle sustained mental exertion and large quantities of being alone, I usually try to spend a lot of time away from home when I do it.
Just remember to be patient with yourself, and don't assume that boredom means you made a mistake. Consciously deciding to refuse passive entertainment is putting your brain in the position where it will need to retrain itself to adapt. Especially if you aren't extremely introverted.
