What would happen if you just gave up your lifestyles of dysfunction?
Basically being functional or dysfunctional is a choice. You are choosing your thoughts and your reactions to everything that happens to you. On conscious and subconscious levels.
People change all the time...consciously and subconsciously. There are many tools, as you have experienced but none of them matter until that person makes the choice to change. So I say skip the crap and make the change.
Why have you decided you should be immune to these possibilities?
