I would assume that, if you become a hitman with the intention of benefitting humanity (perhaps, for example, a reasoning of getting rid of people humanity doesn't like so that humanity is happy, or something), you would be a lightworker, albeit one with a low-level awareness.
If the intention was to benefit yourself, then you'd be a low-level-awareness darkworker.
What I got from past articles was that, as babuji said, the underlying intention (benefit yourself vs. benefit others) determined whether you were a light or darkworker, and that the actions taken (supporting or sacrificing yourself or supporting or sacrificing others) determined your level of awareness
within that polarization.
But that was just my interpretation of it.
