Hi there, I remember you. Good to see you around.

My only quandry is that I'd like to know whether things like this are truly manifestations of my intention, or am I just picking up on disturbances in the ether, so to speak.
I would like to suggest the third possibility that it is both, actually.

It is the observer effect all over again. The observer, by observing, always has some effect on the thing being observed.

For example, if you seek to measure the temperature of a glass of warm water using a thermometer, the thermometer itself absorbs some heat from the water, thereby lowering the temperature of the water. What you end up measuring is not the temperature of the water itself, but the temperature of the water after it has lost some heat to the thermometer.

So it is in your case. You have picked up on a certain person, who knows, perhaps at that time, he was thinking also of your son. But at the same time you held the intention that the person should help your son, and perhaps that led to the person actually wanting to meet your son.
