Trust is good. Essential, in fact. That being said, there's nothing wrong with simply asking in a prayerful or meditative way for some validation that what you're experiencing is real. Of course, you have to be open to the answer.
I don't know if you've seen it, but there's a wireless commercial(I think it's AT&T, but I'm not sure) where this guy is looking at all these phones trying to decide which is best. He says, "I just wish I could get a sign," and one of the phones litterally jumps off the shelf into his hand. He looks at it for a second and then puts it back saying, "If only there was some way to know...."
If you continue to look for the "reason" behind something, you'll always be able to find one that doesn't have anything to do Spirit. But if you're open, you'll also discover that you've been getting these validations all along and just never noticed them.
