Thanks for your input astra! What I actually meant by having the time to be generous was more along the lines of emotional generosity. For example, were I to be completely generous with myself and totally let go of the "worthless", I might allow myself to want to go back to school and retrain for a better paying, more interesting job. But, I seem to always get stuck on the fact that there is nothing between poverty and my family, except this paycheck that I am earning right now.
