I did it at Cal State University Northridge (CSUN). The normal limit was 19 units per semester, but all you had to do to take more classes was to get a permission form signed by your dept chair. The first semester I could only convince her to approve me for 25 units max (and even then she was hesitant), so I took a couple extra classes off campus. When I showed her my report card from the first semester, it wasn't hard to get her to approve me for up to 40 units for the last two semesters.
The other challenge is that I could only enroll in up to 19 units via the automated system each semester, so I had to manually add the extra classes by getting permission from each individual teacher during the first week of classes. That was sometimes difficult, and I had to scramble to find alternate classes when my top choices were already full.
These hurdles were manageable though. It was really just a question of being determined enough to make it happen. I broke a few prerequisite rules to get all the classes I needed, but nobody bothered to enforce them.
The best thing is that it didn't cost me any extra tuition to take those extra units, so I got a substantial discount on my college education.
I graduated a month before the Northridge earthquake, so that was nice timing. |
