This is not at all my experience. Everyone I know who successfully quit smoking (including myself, my uncle, my sister, my mother, and my best friend) did it completely at once.

If it's too much to handle psychologically, you just need a few weeks of preparation before you quit, like I did. People often fail because they lack proper preparation. I tried twice spontaneously and failed miserably, then I did some serious preparation and succeeded.

Not saying you cannot quit gradually. I'm sure some people get great results this way. It's just not the only solution. For me personally, gradually would have been HELL AND TORTURE
