Learn to notice not just the energy, but also how it manifests. If someone is saying "I love you" with negative energy, it usually manifests in their body language. They may have their arms crossed, or maybe not looking at you and scowling. On the other hand, if they do look into your eyes affectionately, or extend a hand, that is showing positive energy. Positive and negative energy show themselves differently with different people, but its all from the same thing. Body language (and generally anything silent) is very powerful.
