It could be that you were experiencing the beginnings of sleep paralysis, a phenomenon that is perfectly natural but deeply disturbing at the same time. Basically when your body is asleep, it paralyses itself to avoid acting out dreams. But occasionally this paralysis can set in before you are actually asleep, causing tingling, perhaps total paralysis, and even the sense of a presence in the room, and is a terrifying experience let me tell you! For me when astral projection is about to happen it feels like the entire bed is vibrating, even jumping around the room, but the most telling sign is the rushing sound in my head. Unmistakeable.
