YOu could think of it as Eckhart Tolle's "The Power of Now" advice, applied not to every second of your waking hours, but to time intervals of anything from, say, 15 minutes to several hours.

Right before you start doing X, you set the intention that you want X to happen in a particular way (your desired outcome).

For example, right before you go to sleep, you could set the intention that you will have a good night's sleep.

Right before your department meeting, you could set the intention that it will be a smooth, useful, productive meeting.

Right before you play a game of tennis, you could set the intention that you will have an enjoyable time playing tennis.

And so on.

This will also prepave the future. In other words, the intention will not merely positively affect the specific occasion right before you, but also future similar occasions. So over time, you will find that you sleep well; your meetings tend to be smooth, useful and productive; and playing tennis is really fun.
