Some great replies to this thread people, thanks for taking time out to explain all this to us noobs. I've been on the run so I haven't had time to address each one, suffice to say that you guys have made me believe that making money on the internet is not such a far fetched thing after all, despite all the crap out there.

Anyway, I've done some serious thinking and discussion with a former colleague of mine, and... We've decided to start making money online. As to how, we'll discuss that later when I need to leech off some of you knowledgeable guys. For now, though, let's just say that we're not going to be doing a Steve Pavlina clone blog (from what I've seen so far, Steve Pavlina type blogs are best done by Steve Pavlina), nor will we do a "how to make money on the internet thingy," because that just seems so incredibly un-creative and ineffective long term. I mean, I've looked at all these types of money-making sites, and it seems obvious to me that most of them are run by people who do not make a lot of money on the internet. It seems to me they are either selling "how-to" e-books to one another, or regurgitating each others info over and over and over again on wordpress blogs with adsense ads. It's a farce. That thing is not going to last long term, I think. A friend of mine bought an e-book from one of the guys who allegedly has a bit of respect in the field, and sent me the book to have a look at it. I couldn't believe what this guy was telling people to do. Basically, with his 'system' you start out by writing articles (minimum five hundred words) and selling them to this adsense-dude for $5 each. Yup, you heard right. FIVE dollars for an article. Who in their right mind would work for that kind of money? This internet millionaire guru would, he said, and claimed this thing was the greatest thing to ever happen to people who want to make money online. Then, he said, once you get going with the article writing, you start selling his e-book. Yeah, that's right. You buy his e-book so that you can sell it to other idiots for a commision. Then, they can do the same thing. Brilliant business model, isn't it. Now, the guy charges $47 for this crap, and people are buying it. Pretty sad stuff.

I guess I grew a little jaded after encountering so much crap like that over the last few weeks. Luckily, though, there are obviously legit ways of making money online as well. We'll see how we go. We're getting together in the weekend to jot down a business plan. Should be fun.
