It has to do with universal synchronicity and the "nods" and "winks" the universe gives you to let you know you are neither alone nor "all that and a bag of chips."
Some believe that consistently noticing doubles and repeating patterns is the universe's way of doing this.
So, to Steve's point, if you don't notice it, then it has no impact for you. However, for those who are constantly experiencing this phenomenon, it provides an explanation of sorts.
Me personally... never had anything like it happen on a consistent enough basis to make me go "hmmmm". But I've experienced enough other nods and winks myself first-hand that I do not discount it for others.
