Been there. I know EXACTLY what you're talking about. I didn't experience it until I was an adult, but that sense of terror - well, not exactly terror, more like panic - was very real.
Funny thing is, I was TRYING to get there. I just wasn't prepared for the totality of the "nothingness" I experienced.
I mean, throughout our entire conscious existence there has been movement. Nothing and I mean NOTHING is ever completely still. If nothing else, heat makes air molecules move, so there is always some kind of perceptible movement.
In the void, or what the Buddhists call the Ohm, there is absolutely nothing and since there's nothing there, there's nothing to move. Even now, it is still a very unsettling place for me, I have to admit, but the panic I had the first time I experienced it has subsided.
For what it's worth, I don't think the voices you heard were malicious, though I can only imagine what my response would have been if I'd heard my Spirit Guides like that when I was six.
I'm glad you've conquored your fear. Now you can work on being clear about what you are experiencing. Once you have clarity, you are half way there.
