If you're getting something useful out of the internet I don't think it's a waste of time. I spend a lot of time on the internet, 3 hours is nuthin'. A lot of that time is spent learning, but a bunch is time spent with 'people', I get as much as I give in that case so it works for me.
If you feel your time is wasted just shut 'er down and walk away.
