Default Is "Please call me!" a common practice for US businesses?

Hi!

From time to time, I receive e-mails from American companies that more or less boil down to: "We may have some business for you! Call us now at XXX-XXX-XXXX."

I never know what to make of these things. If they're so eager to talk to me, why don't they just call? My phone number is listed right next to my e-mail address, for crying out loud.

I'm inclined to toss 'em all out as spam, but most time the sources seem respectable enough (i.e. decent website that lists phone numbers, address, etc.). Just in case this is some business practice I'm not familiar with: is it a common practice for US businesses to ask potential clients/contractors to call them back about a business offer?

If not, then I guess it's just another form of spam that my filter can learn to discard
