You know, when I read your post I wanted to jump in with my 2 cents, but then I read Erin's posts and that was pretty much what I was going to say anyway - in different words, but basically same concept - so the only thing I want to do is support what she said.
Yes, you can send him help, love, aid and energy - but if he's not receptive or doesn't know or understand what to do with it, it will not have a lasting impact.
Yes, there are Dark forces in this world and the Spirit World that prey on us when we are unwitting. Some are human, some are not. Being Aware and seeking the aid and protection of your Spirit Guides and Allies is the best way to protect yourself.
One word of caution, though: Unfortunately, this works both ways. If your friend is bringing this malaise on himself, you should be very careful to protect yourself when around him as his negative energy can bring you down just as your love and support can raise him up.
