The reason for recording them is simply that there is an appreciable (and measurable) difference in their clarity and recall as you transition from monophasic to biphasic sleep. At least there was in my case, and I'm curious to see if this is something that is experienced by others.

I didn't have anything complex in mind; just a pencil and paper on the bedside table. Write down what you remember when you wake up.
