It is a pity when we have people who are expected to be closer to us, but are not. However, just to remind you that you must not give up. Blood is blood and I am pretty sure you will be in good terms later. I cannot give you professional advice but from my experince in life, all I can say is that start from forgiving.
Just to inform you, I PERSONALLY met my mother when I was 20, and it took us another 20 years to become friends and it all started by forgiving each other.
