You're not alone. I had a little foray into the pickup artist world and noticed the same thing.
I found a lot of the guys interested in pickup rather creepy, but a lot of what they do teach is personal development. Improving your confidence, dressing better, developing a positive attitude, etc are just a few of the things they teach you.
I think pickup actually has a lot to offer if you focus on the personal development side of things.
