As a species, I would argue that we do have more importance. Hedgehogs do not have the potential for spaceflight, as far as we know, but humans do. There might be aliens out there more advanced than us, but as far as we know, there aren't.

Thus, it is our responsibility to try to reach as far as we can, because otherwise, no one else will. And what's the point, if no one ever does?
