(2) The costs of trying
(3) The consequences of not trying
(4) The potential benefits (if you succeed)
(5) The potential losses (if you fail)
From your post, I gather you have already assessed (2) to (5). Your query is only about (1). In other words, you wonder about whether you can or cannot successfully apply the LOA to alter the odds of success in your favour. I would say that you are the best judge of that, for yourself.
