Wow. I like both of those...especially drawing the analogy of looking in the mirror. In fact, it is a great way to analogize to LOA to adults as well. And the sharing game is an example of the type of curriculum that is need in our school, especially in the first few years of schooling. A few years ago, there was a movement to make sure every child had high self esteem by simply telling them they were great regardless of thier actions (an oversimplification of what was being done, of course). However, this obviously encourages a disconnect between what a child does and who the child is. Something like the sharing game is a real venue for increase childrens self esteem, both for the giver...and the child that recieves, who knows that she is worth getting whatever it is she received, and that her needs will be attended to by asking! |
