^ Science agrees with much of what you said. Our joy systems are hooked up into our exploratory systems which are activated by goals. Incentive motivation (wanting what we want) feels a lot better than consumptive motivation (having what we want). Human beings are also need big goals to believe in and it makes people sooooo much happier who have goals, because we're goal-oriented, action-oriented creatures. That means, indeed, that the journey is the best part, not necessarily the achievement. You also get used to the achievement very easily and very shortly after the achievement is done.
