Why not become fluent in a second language in a month? Pick any language that interests you: Spanish, Japanese, Swedish, ....

The mundane way: immersion, with daily lessons.

It would be fascinating to hear what your sticking points were, and see how much progress you made.
Bonus: if the trial goes well, you'll no longer be monolingual. This -will- change your perspective. Secondarily, it will open you to authors, people, cultural experiences, and viewpoints that you would otherwise be much less exposed to.
