A few years back, I decided that a periodic 1-2 day water fast wasn't getting me where I wanted to be, so I opted to try for the Big Kahuna: 30 days water fast.
I was very impressed that virtually all of my "emotional eating" subsided by day 4, and I smile at all the well meaning people here who talk about how "dangerous" a fast of 30 days can be. I remember the "acetone breath" very well.
My 30 day fast attempt ended at 17 days because I got lazy and skimped on water intake. I got a nasty little kidney infection because my kidneys were trying to do their job and filter out toxins and I wasn't "lubricating the machinery" properly.
Some other thoughts:
1. Distilled water makes it tougher. Spring water does a lot more for you preventing mineral imbalances. My goal was to cleanse my alimentary system, not whack electrolytes and monkey around with mineral deficiencies.
2. Don't drive after 2 weeks. You'd be surprised at how slow your reflexes have gotten.
3. Scrape your tongue with baking soda, not toothpaste. Toothpaste taste triggers hunger reactions and it'll take a day to reset.
4. Don't play softball in the hot sun on an extended fast. Just trust me on this one. |
It's interesting to note that you smile at the people that say it's dangerous and yet you barely got past half way and ended up with a kidney infection. This reminds me of the joke where the farmer decided to see if he could teach his mule to live without food. Just as he thought he'd managed it the mule dropped dead.
I wouldn't encourage anybody to do this and I think your friends have the best intentions Lucas but I wish you well with it.
