I used to have the same problem. Getting answers feels good but a good book has so many answers that to apply them all immediately is just overwhelming. It's too big a job.
Choose one thing to do from a book or tape that you think will stretch you a little bit but not too much. Work on it until you have mastered that small item of progress. Then find the next small step to make and repeat the process. You might think "This is too slow!" but a small piece of definite progress is much better than good intentions never completed and hence no progress whatsoever (perhaps for years on end!).
