One thing to keep in mind, if your keyboard plugs in using a PS/2 port (round as opposed to rectangular for USB), then a full system restart (right off then back on) is required for the computer to recognize that the keyboard is plugged in.

Does the capslock light flash when you first turn the PC on, as well as lighting up when you push the capslock on and off while the computer is on? If not, then its likely that there is no connection at the port or no power getting to the keyboard.
