You might find a food co-op helpful. When you buy food in a grocery store, you're paying for a large parking lot, a big, well lighted store, to have everything you might like to buy enticingly arranged and easy to get to, the ability to just see something and buy it without planning, and advertising. I not saying grocery stores are evil or anything, just that all the convenience they offer you adds to the price of the food you buy. A food co-op may be less convenient: for example, you may need to list your purchases a week in advance, but the food can be a lot cheaper.
