There are several stages to a lucid dream.

First, becoming lucid. Doesn't mean the characters are going to behave differently than how they're programmed to behave. If you had not been lucid, they still would have been mocking you.

Second, taking control of the dream content. Most people become lucid but cannot change the direction their dream is heading. In the beginning I had horrible things happening to me in my lucid dreams. YOu think I'd choose that? No, but I didnt' know how to change it. So once you master becoming lucid then you work on changing the dream content to your liking.

Third step is programming a dream outright, before you go to sleep, so at the first moment of lucidity or perhaps even going into the dream from the get go, you get the dream you want.
