My husband and I bought a mixed bundle on ebay to try out the different kinds. They were a lot cheaper than from the store and it was fun to try something different each time.
We use durex, although not for any particular reason. Our favourites were ribbed and dotted (sensations I think), tingle, and the ones that make it last longer, I forget what they're called.
A lot of people I know like the ribbed ones. The teat shaped ones are apparently more comfortable for the guy than the straight ones. We tried some "natural" non lubricated ones and they were just awful, we were equally unimpressed with the extra lubricated ones, they just felt slimy.
Basically it comes down to personal choice. I don't think there is a lot of difference in safety and effectiveness across different brands or types as they have to conform to certain standards.
My advice is try some out and see which you prefer. If you do get them from ebay or somewhere, be sure to check the expiry dates before you use them.
