That's true (specifically, a Reiki master will extend your heart chakra to the palms of your hands and do something over your third eye), but I think it's a misconception that your chakras need to be "activated." They're active all the time; most people just aren't used to feeling their chakras like we feel feelings of hunger, etc. For example, if you are hurt emotionally, if you really think about it, you can actually pinpoint in your body where that emotional pain manifests -- and it's probably one of the chakras.

In my last Reiki class, I thought it was interesting that the students who struggled with fear and self-confidence held all their stress in their stomachs. The student who dealt with anger more than fear held all her stress in her chest.

In the Brennan book I'm reading, I just got to a chapter with chakra meditations. She's really into this visualization where you see a funnel (with the wide end out from your body and the tip reaching into your spine, one on the front of the body and one on the back) that corresponds with the chakra color, then you twirl it clockwise. I haven't tried this, but it might be worth trying.
