Default Free time at work - how would YOU spend it?

I'm looking for fresh ideas. I work at a computer help desk, and while we are sometimes very busy, we often have downtime between calls which we can spend in any way we choose as long as it is not too disruptive. The majority of people here (me included!) tend to spend their free time surfing the internet between calls.

I want to use my time at work in a productive way that will let me grow as a person or develop a valuable skill that I can use to move into a better position or even self-employment.

On an average day I probably have 30 to 65 percent downtime.

From a personal development standpoint, what would you do?
