Ilya is on a distinguished road
Default

I woke up today and this thread came into my mind. I wrote above about small challenges, but somehow forgot about the big ones.
I go hiking. By hiking I mean walking in the wilderness with a group of friends. The point is to go to the place where there are no people and walk the route for several days or weeks. We carry our food and equipment and are completely autonomous for the duration of the hike. Now that sure does take your our of your comfort zone. Once you realize that a mistake can easily cost you your life, you get a ton of opportunities for the spiritual growth.
Some achievements you would consider very important in the city, are meaningless there or even dangerous. For example it is very unwise to remain vegan and even vegetarian in the wild.
Hmm... I'd better make a separate thread on it.

Also I sometimes take part in some crazy experiments, like for example the "blind retreat", where you get blindfolded and live in the blind mode for a day or two. You basically have to invent the new way of living in the world and do it quick if you don't want to break your legs. These retreats are organized outside the city, outdoors, with trees, hills ditches and everything.

Compared to such things anything that can be done in the usual urban environment just doesn't feel like "leaving the comfort zone" at all.
