Well there are spirit guides and then there's your higher self. Danman, you may be talkign to your higher self which will present as sort of a master guide.
Spirit guides are multiple. No one has just one. Or at least, that would be phenomenally rare and unlikely. I find it's best to first connect with your higher self who can then faciliate your meeting with your guides.
