Interesting idea but... the thoughts of the past are part of one's beliefs. It's not the event that is tripping us up, it's our belief that we have made out of that event. To be able to remember an event and conclude a belief that will help you with your goals is the approach I would suggest. I mean, somethings in the past you can't change, even if you pretend to think it didn't. But you can change what you think about the event.

Like, if you want to be going with a girl but you never have. Pretending that you have in the past will probably cause you to feel delussional or dishonset even. Not to mention others around you will think you are lossing it if you actually say to others about stuff you've done in the past that you haven't. Why not face the facts but in this case say to yourself - all those girls I went for and failed with were there to teach me this and that so that I can be better at building what I want in the future. It's reframing the feel of old events not the event it self.
