Yes, its all subjective really. I have used GTD a lot and I've found that setting some big, important, major goals above all the day to day stuff and focusing on them has massive advantages in getting things done. You can list everything you need to do - but you need a motivation to do each action. Steve wrote about this as well in his blog a while back.
I read a chapter in Dan Kennedys time management book called 'Fight to link everything to your goals'. This works a treat - now at work I ask myself: does this help me achieve my top 6 work goals for this year? If not - then I think very carefully before investing my time.
