I began discussing such things as building a conscious society with some friends of mine a few years ago. Of course, that's not what we called it, because none of us had ever heard of Steve before, but it was a very similar concept. One of the problems is that sleepwalkers (or sleeping 'bears' for that manner) are very dangerous when awakened. They tend to react instinctively and sometimes violently when their paredigms are chalenged. I heard an interesting story on
NPR this afternoon concerning Reverend Carlton Pearson and the reaction of his 'flock' after he had an epiphany and decided to stray from the mainstream charismatic pentecostal viewpoint. The name of this story, Heretics, is interesting because while Heretics have often been a force of change in society, they also oftimes come to a bad end. What that means is that if we are going to make a productive change in society, we are going to have to tread lightly, and keep our eyes open for angry mobs with torches and pitchforks
