Meditate In The Now
I would suggest that you meditate in the now. What I mean by that is that you should turn your focus to the moment. During meditation most people will find that their mind wonders after any significant time during meditation. If you don't believe me then attempt to clear your mind right now of all thoughts and tell me how long you can do it. As you probably have observed the mind can't clear it's own thoughts(unless you're one of the great sages or avatars). The solution during meditation is to focus not on the past or the future but the present. The present is a gift and we can never get the last 2 seconds that passed (while you were reading this) ever again. Try keeping you mind clear while taking in all the details of the current moment. To some this might sound like a contradiction but experientially it can be done. To be candid, attempt to have a sensory overload of as much stimuli you can take in at once in the current moment while keeping your mind free of thoughts. You will find that it is much easier to focus during meditation by taking in the gift of the infinite NOW.
