If you want to learn about Jesus, pick up a modern Bible (no ye's, thou's, thee's and thine's). I'd recommend a New International Version (NIV) or the Clear Word. The Clear Word isn't an actual version of the Bible, but it's quite pleasant to read. I really don't enjoy reading the KJV or old versions that are from Shakespeare's era.

I'd start in the New Testament book of John (easiest to read, in my opinion) or Luke. The first four books (Matthew, Mark, Luke and John) are fairly similar, they basically tell the same story just from different perspectives.
