Well, let me use your quote as an illustration. You are describing the usual european orgasm. You talk about it like one universal thing. Buildup the peak (which surely feels like a lot of stress, especially if you hold your breath
) then relaxation that Erki writes about.
The thing is, that it is not the only orgasm there is. As I wrote in some other thread, I can identify at least three distinct types of orgasms just in my pelvic area alone. They are triggered in different ways and they have different qualities to them. One is more intense, other is more relaxed.
Besides that I can feel orgasm in any part of the body or even a full body orgasm. And on top of all that they can all happen one after another in different combinations minutes or even seconds apart for hours. The women can do it. I was envious, so I've learned how to do it as well.
Mind you this does not happen every time, requires a proper mood and setting and stamina (for the "hours" part)
and even this modest result has required more then ten years of practice, but it is possible.
So I have to say that the "usual" orgasm, which for most people is the most intense and pleasant physical sensation, is the feeblest, and plainest of all kinds known to me. But the pleasure is not the reason. It is not the real answer for the "why" question.
The true reason is that these practices are only steps towards the control of sexual energy and ultimately towards spiritual growth. Towards spiritual growth together with your sexual partner, the person you love.
I am still slowly moving along that path. I can't say that Taoist sexual practices are "the" way of spiritual growth. I've experienced faster results from other schools and teachings.
But I believe that personal growth is about gaining more options. And then making conscious choices about these options. It's hard to claim consciousness when you have only one choice.
In Western tradition there are not many options in sexual life, even now in post sexual revolution era. In the end you either have an orgasm or you don't the ways you get there are different but the difference is superficial
Making more options available at this area is the prime reason why I practice various sexual techniques. The fact that this is an intimate area of our live, so emotionally charged, so full of controversial beliefs and quite hard to control makes it a great challenge.
Almost as exciting as becoming an early riser
