I just recently heard the same lesson in a different area of life.
When you're working in a team and you discover someone has done something bad that needs fixing, it is your responsibility to make sure it gets fixed.
If you can fix it yourself you do so, and if you can't you bring in the competence you need. Every problem is a problem for the whole team. Problems left alone don't fix themselves and they even have a tendency to become harder to fix over time.
