I remember asking my dad the same question when I was young, after he told me money doesn't grow on trees!
Now I know different. It does grow on trees, you just have to
nurture that tree from a seed until it grows strong enough to pay the dividends. Metaphorically speaking.
I'm still not sure my dad gets this though.
