 It's all about exchange
Keep in mind that, just like several hundreds of years ago, it's still all about exchange. You can't exchange directly with everybody because not everybody offers what you want and not everybody wants what you offer so in both cases you exchange to money as a medium. Thus, it's totally accepted and there's nothing wrong (from the other persons perspective) with doing it only for the money.
However, in the long run, you should remember that true fulfillment comes only from appreciation and contribution and coming from purpose. Steve did a great job explaining this during the years and there's a bunch of material available on the web about this (Harv Eker, Tony Robbins, Brian Tracy etc).
Remember: money is an effect, not a cause. Just make sure to take the necessary steps which will eventually result in the money being transferred to your bank account.
