You need to give him a challenge. Start with something that is just beyond his current level of proficiency. Only if he discovers how much fun using his talents really is, will he be motivated to make the most of them. So make sure that he can accomplish the first challenge. When he does, be ready for him to come to you for a bigger challenge...
