It is interesting, isn't it? Important to listen to our intuition, I think.
Maybe that conversation actually kept you closer to your 3 year old, so that when he ran in the elevator you were close enough to catch it....

PS when my daughter was toddler age, I made a rule that at any time if I even thought of where she might be in the house (e.g., at night after we'd turned in or other times when I generally thought I knew where she was, etc.), then I would get up and go check her. I did this and only a couple times caught her into something that could have been dangerous, nothing really serious. But this gave me a great feeling of security. I never had to think through, is she OK, should I check on her? Decision already made, if I thought of it, that's where I'd go. Made me feel good as a mom.
