It's really, really dependent upon the person involved. For some, celebrity has brought fame, wealth, happiness and a burning desire to continue to do what they're doing. (Bruce Springsteen comes to mind right away.)

For others, it becomes a millstone around their neck that they wish they never got in the first place. (hello Britney..!)

For yet others, they enjoy the money and the work, but are very uncomfortable with the whole role as public persona. (Neil Peart.)

So one's response to celebrity is as individual as one's own personality. I guess it might be like being invovled in an extremely stressful situation, such as combat. One never knows how they're going to react until they're in the middle of it.
