Go to Queens
Queens is the most diverse county in the United States, and more languages are spoken there than in any equivalent land mass on Earth (except London). I used to live in Astoria (Greek), my friend lived in Jackson Heights (Indian), down the street was an Arab neighborhood (as in, I couldn't read the signs over the stores), in another direction was a Columbian neighborhood. The Poles are in Greenpoint, Koreans are in Flushing, etc. Just get on the 7 train and get off somewhere. I just moved back to New York for two reasons: the diverse population, and the energy. Whatever you choose to do, make sure you experience those two things.
As for having a meet-up, any of the larger parks in Manhattan would be ideal.
