I'm not a New Yorker, but when I visit (as much as I can) I find that walking in NYC is very nice. When you are too tired you just take a cab to go back to the hotel.

My must see are the Met (Metropolitan museum of art), Central Park and Guggenheim. If you are there for Columbus Day then the little Italy is a sure place to find action. If you love crowds, then you'll love spending the evening of Columbus Day there.

Also New York is a much safer city than Las Vegas, statistic wise at least. I know you knew that, but I couldn't help myself.

Also I would be interested to meet you, in the unlikely event I'm in town at the same time as you.
